Obermais' secret leader: "We urgently need victories"

Four points from the last two games have given FC Obermais hope of staying in Serie D. However, defender Alex Demetz is demanding more ahead of the crucial home game against bottom-of-the-table Portogruaro (Sunday, 2:30 pm): a win is a must!

Alex Demetz has played for some of the best South Tyrolean football clubs of today. Trained at FC Südtirol, the Val Gardena native even made one cup appearance for the club's first team. The left-back played in Serie D with Virtus Bozen and also had a stint in the Oberliga with St. Georgen. Finally, Demetz celebrated promotion to Serie D with Obermais and is a key player for the club.

Demetz is highly regarded by those in charge at Obermais. A solid player, the 28-year-old impresses above all with his strong tackling and leadership qualities. Most recently, Demetz was listed as vice-captain behind Edoardo Ghiotti.

Ahead of Sunday's home game against Portogruaro, Demetz looks back on the last two matches with mixed feelings: "The win against Vigasio definitely motivated us and gave us a lot of enthusiasm for the game against Adriese. We could be satisfied with four points from two games, but we are aware that we desperately need wins in the relegation battle." Demetz emphasizes: "The point against Adriese (0-0; editor's note) only helps us to a limited extent. We would have needed three points to take a decisive step. Nevertheless, we're not letting our heads drop."

The road to achieving the targeted survival in the league is still long.

Obermais has two more direct matches scheduled in the next two weeks. On Sunday, bottom-of-the-table Portogruaro visits South Tyrol. Demetz: "We'll take the positive aspects from the last few games to prepare optimally for the upcoming match against Portogruaro. I'm convinced that together we'll take another step forward and bring home the three points."
