Shortly before the season finale, the situation for FC Obermais has changed once again: In the event of a draw, there could be an additional deciding match against San Luigi.

FC Obermais recalculated their situation before the final matchday of Serie D – more thoroughly than initially planned. For a long time, the situation seemed clear: if FCO wins against San Luigi on Sunday (15 p.m.), they'll go into the relegation playoffs. If Obermais loses, direct relegation to the Oberliga is sealed. A draw, as things stood, would leave them behind San Luigi due to their head-to-head record, which would also mean relegation. But this calculation appears to be incorrect.
As the club announced, a new and previously unknown rule applies to a specific scenario. Because a draw between Obermais and San Luigi would determine relegation based on their head-to-head result, the league has decided to hold a playoff match instead. The winner of this match would advance to the relegation playoffs, while the loser would be relegated.

This could lead to several scenarios on Sunday. The new situation: If Obermais wins against San Luigi, FCO is guaranteed a place in the relegation playoffs and will face Vigasio. If coach Flavio Toccoli's team loses, relegation to the Oberliga is confirmed. However, if the direct encounter ends in a draw, there are two possibilities: If Calvi Noale loses against Bassano, Obermais would advance to the relegation playoffs against Calvi Noale. If Calvi Noale wins, however, there would be an additional decisive match against San Luigi for the relegation playoff spot.
A draw does not mean relegation.
For Obermais, the sporting challenge remains just as difficult despite the new rule confusion. The surest way to avoid relegation is through a win in San Luigi. Then FCO would control their own destiny and could fight for survival in the Serie D playoffs a week later. The good news: a draw would no longer mean elimination – but could instead lead to another dramatic relegation playoff round.Edit Profile
