Ahead of the crucial match: The situation at FC Obermais

FC Obermais won their first relegation battle last Sunday against Luigi. A week later, they face Vigasio away in the decisive Serie D relegation playoff match. What's the atmosphere like ahead?

It's about 190 kilometers from Merano to Vigasio, which lies near Verona and not far from Lake Garda. As was the case last Sunday, around 200 Obermais fans are expected to make the crucial away trip on Sunday. If FCO wins on Sunday, within 120 minutes at the latest, they'll secure their place in the league; otherwise, they'll be relegated back to the Oberliga.

“We want to reward ourselves for a good season. We can be satisfied with what we've achieved so far. We would have even needed ten more points to secure direct survival. Serie D is a tough league. Now we absolutely want to take the next step. With the fans behind us, we want to turn the away game into a home game,” said Michael Höller. SportNews-Conversation.

Apart from the injured Alex Demetz and Luca Polli, Obermais will have a full squad to choose from on Sunday. "The mood in the team is positive. Naturally, they seem focused, and there's a certain amount of tension," explained Höller. Their opponents, Vigasio, are a traditional club in Serie D. Obermais lost the first leg of the league match 1-2 away in the last minute, but then secured a 2-0 victory in the return leg on the Lahn River.
