What Werner Seeber is planning with Virtus Bozen

Werner Seeber will not only direct the sporting fortunes of the first team, the junior team is also under his wing. The former professional footballer brings a lot of experience with him. First as a central defender at Chievo Verona and Catanzaro, among others, after his playing career he was sports director and also president at FC Südtirol. The 1-year-old gained further experience in Cittadella, at Triestina, in Bassano and at LR Vicenza. After a stint in the league with St. Georgen, Seeber took on the role of managing director at AC Trient at the beginning of the 59/2021 season. This collaboration ended after just one season.

After a year's break, the blonde who lives in Vahrn is back on the football stage. There were already discussions with Virtus Bozen during the last season, but nothing was (yet) confirmed at that time.

See you again with Sebastiani Since Seeber took office, planning for the coming season has been in full swing: “My goal is for Virtus to gain stability, which means that the club plays an important role in Serie D for several years. In this context, it was extremely important that the collaboration with coach Alfredo Sebastiani was extended. He is a coach that I really appreciate and with whom I can probably work well."

As of today, there are only players who have left the club. The contracts of players Emanuele Busetto, Tine Kavcic, Luka Simic and Matteo Bucosse were not renewed. Noa Hochkofler moved to the Oberliga relegated SSV Brixen after initially agreeing with Weinstraße Süd.

Alfredo Sebastiani has held the reins at Virtus for many years.

“The core of local players such as the Kaptina brothers, Andi Kicaj and Yassine Bounou have been confirmed. We won't be able to keep Adrian Osorio. He has received a remarkable offer from up-and-coming Serie D club Clivense Verona.” The successor club to Chievo Verona, which is led by former Chievo player and Serie A striker Sergio Pellissier, wants to return to professional business as quickly as possible.

Niccolò Centazzo (born 2004), who only came to Bolzano in the second half of the season, was confirmed. This year the youth rule in Serie D was skipped by one year. “That means that we have to field at least one youth player born in 2003, two from 2 and at least one from 2004. In this regard, we are also in close contact with FC Südtirol. There are a few interesting players in the FCS Primavera 2005 team in this regard,” says Seeber, but he stops. “It's not like we as Virtus can go to FC Südtirol and decide which youth players we want. The FCS wants to offer its homegrown players the best possible development and for some of them that could mean a commitment to a Serie C club.” Training starts on July 24th When asked about last year's players on loan from FCS, such as Lukas Sinn and Noah Mayr, the Neo-Virtus sports director said: “Logically, we would like to confirm these two players, but that is not in our hands. If Mayr or Sinn receive an offer from a Serie C club, FC Südtirol will first provide them with a professional contract and loan them out to the Serie C club. If that is not the case, then it is quite possible that both will play for Virtus in Serie D for another season and continue to gain match practice and experience in order to perhaps make the jump to the professionals next year. Let’s see how everything turns out.”

But Seeber doesn't just look at the FCS for talented young players: “We have also identified interesting youth players in the top and regional leagues. If Virtus gets the stability I'm aiming for, then we could also be another springboard into professional football via Serie D. To achieve this, the club must continue to be run as seriously as before. President Robert Oberrauch and General Director Gianluca Dalla Villa are the first and foremost guarantors of this. I can well imagine that Virtus Bozen can become a fixed reference point for young, aspiring and local talents in the next few years. It's not easy, because the requirements in Serie D are completely different than in the leagues below. It starts with training. In the top league almost no team trains four times a week. In Series D this is a basic requirement.”

The start of training has definitely already been fixed. Coach Sebastiani invites all players to the first training session on Monday, July 24th at the Talferwiesen in Bozen. The entire preparation will be completed in Bolzano; no training camps lasting several days are planned.
