Joachim Degasperi thinks about the future: “I want to return home”

After the 31-year-old from Bolzano separated from Bassano, he is now thinking about returning home and ending his career as a professional footballer after 14 seasons. In the meantime, “Jack” is in Coverciano, where he is taking part in a training camp organized by the players’ union “Assocalciatori” for the athletes who do not yet have a contract for the coming season. The participants will be sweating in Coverciano until August 9th and, thanks to an agreement with the Italian Football Association, they will also have the opportunity to complete basic training as a coach. “I learned a lot. But I won't put myself under unnecessary stress. At 31, it’s time to think about the future,” said Degasperi.

“It’s difficult at 31 years old” Degasperi is hoping for an offer, but remains realistic. The striker, who celebrated his 300th professional game this year, knows full well that it is time to look forward. “In Bassano I was never able to really put myself into the spotlight because of my injuries. Now I'm without a contract and at 31 years old it's difficult. The boys have priority in the transfer market. But I still continue to work and hope that one day I will get a call. Of course, I have already received a few offers, but at a certain point you have to consider whether it makes sense to continue,” explains the South Tyrolean. Joachim Degasperi is also toying with the idea of returning home. “Football is my great passion. But in Bolzano I have my girlfriend, my family and many friends. I would also be happy if I could play in the top league. I would look for a job, but not put myself under unnecessary pressure. At a certain age you have to think about what the future will bring,” says the Bolzano offensive player. In Coverciano, Degasperi started a new project: “With the basic coaching training I could train youth teams. I think I would even do respectably, because I've always had a penchant for accuracy. Who knows…,” he concludes with a smile.
