State league: St. Martin stumbles in St. Pauls – but doesn’t fall (completely)

After the “Mortiner” victory against rivals FC Bozen 96, the path to the top league seemed paved. On Wednesday evening, Lanthaler & Co. couldn't get past a goalless 0-0 draw against the hard-fighting St. Paulsner. Because Bolzano narrowly had the upper hand 2-1 in the derby against Neugries, the leader's lead over the white-red team has shrunk to five points. With five games still to play, it's a reassuring cushion - but it can quickly be lost.

In the second Bozen derby between Virtus Don Bosco and Bozen FC, the spectators were treated to a goal spectacle. A whopping seven goals were scored in the 4:3 victory for Virtus. It's a shame for Bozner FC, because three goals scored should actually be enough for a win. With a bit of good will, the game between Moos and Merano could also be considered a derby. The points were shared here because after 90 minutes the score was 1:1.

The wave of success from the second best team in the second half of the season, Sarntal, was at least partially stopped on Wednesday. The Eschgfeller team couldn't get past a 1-1 draw in Natz. For the Eisacktaler it was an important point towards staying in the league, while the Sarnen team established itself in the top half of the table and now has 39 points.

Latzfons Verdings also celebrated an important success in the race to stay in the league against bottom team Teis Villnöß. The hosts dispatched the almost certain relegated team 3-1. The 26th matchday takes place on Sunday.

State league: St. Martin stumbles in St. Pauls – but doesn’t fall (completely)

On Wednesday evening, the 22nd matchday of the South Tyrolean State League was rescheduled, which had been canceled following the death of Piermario Morosini on Sunday, April 15th. Leaders St. Martin in Passeier im Überetsch had to be content with a goalless draw.
