Platini (70) was awakened by noises outside his house. He surprised a masked person dressed in black standing in front of his bay window. After chasing the person away, he discovered that about 20 medals and trophies had disappeared from a garden shed where he kept some of his prizes, the prosecutor's office said.
The investigation is ongoing to arrest the perpetrator and determine the exact quantity and type of stolen goods. The former UEFA president's lawyer was initially unable to comment on the break-in when contacted. According to French media reports, Platini remained unharmed during his encounter with the burglar at his home in the coastal town of Cassis.
A football legend
"Platoche," as Platini's compatriots call him, won the Ballon d'Or three times and was European champion with France in 1984. He later coached the French national team and served as UEFA President from 2007 to 2015.Edit Profile
