Real Madrid beats Pachuca outnumbered

Playing almost the entire game with a man down, Real Madrid beat Pachuca 3-1 on Sunday. Jude Bellingham (35th minute), Arda Güler (43rd minute), and Federico Valverde (70th minute) scored the goals for the Spanish record champions, who are playing in the Salzburg Group. Real will face the "Bulls" on Friday night.

After the 1-1 draw against Al Hilal, Real Madrid had already planned a win. There were few personnel changes. The ill Kylian Mbappe did not make the trip to Charlotte, and David Alaba is still out of the match squad following his knee surgery. However, the match got off to a particularly unfortunate start for the favorites. After less than seven minutes, last-man Raul Asencio was shown the red card for a tug on Pachuca's Salomon Rondon.

Pachuca too harmless in superior numbers This didn't help the Mexicans – who lost 0-3 to Real Madrid in the Intercontinental Cup final last December – much. Although Thibaut Courtois denied the underdogs a two-goal lead in the 18th minute, Xabi Alonso could still be pleased with his team's performance. The difference in quality eventually became apparent. Bellingham (35') finished off a pass down the left, before Güler (43') added another a few minutes before halftime. After the break, Real Madrid took a more relaxed approach in front of 70.248 spectators. Pachuca had some dangerous moments, but Courtois was initially unstoppable. At the other end, Valverde easily made it 3-0, before Elias Montiel reduced the deficit with a deflected shot in the 80th minute. However, there was no tension. After the 1-2 defeat to Salzburg in their opening match, Pachuca no longer has a chance of advancing to the round of XNUMX.
