Red cards & goals: Wild finish between BVB and Real Madrid

Borussia Dortmund was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Club World Cup against Real Madrid.

The Bundesliga club lost 2-3 to Madrid, led by star coach Xabi Alonso. Gonzalo García scored the first two goals in the 10th minute and Fran García in the 20th. Dortmund had no way to counter the early deficit in front of 76.611 spectators at the massive MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, near New York.

Maximilian Beier only reduced the deficit in injury time (90+2), but shortly afterward, Kylian Mbappé scored for Real Madrid (90+4). Serhou Guirassy converted the resulting penalty after Madrid player Dean Huijsen was sent off to level the score (90+8), before Dortmund even missed a chance to equalize at 3-3.
