This is how the season went for the South Tyrolean professionals

One thing first: South Tyrol's football exports are getting along better and better in the big professional world. Although an absolute star player is missing, there is at least a first division professional in Austrian legionnaire Simon Straudi. Most South Tyroleans earned their money in Serie C last season - but it doesn't have to stay that way. Simon Straudi (Austria Klagenfurt) The Puster player has had a difficult season. The spring in particular was not to his liking, even though his team was on the road to success (including Salzburg being beaten). Straudi was injured a lot and ultimately only made 17 appearances. Nevertheless, his contract in Klagenfurt was extended, which speaks for his quality and importance.

Manuel De Luca (Sampdoria) Pfattner missed out on immediate promotion back to Serie A with Sampdoria. For De Luca personally, the season was still a complete success. After a meniscus injury, he was really fit again. In 32 appearances he scored 10 times and was therefore recommended for higher tasks. It remains to be seen whether the 25-year-old will be able to prove himself in Serie A from autumn onwards. It would definitely be possible.

Max Reinthaler (1860 Munich) The Algunder central defender has had a year to forget. Sidelined with Wehen Wiesbaden in the 2nd Bundesliga, he moved to 1860 Munich (3rd league) in the winter. He would have been set there, but a long-term injury put him out of action. In the end, he only played 18 times for the traditional Bavarian club. His personal highlight: the goal in Wiesbaden's only second division appearance against Schalke.

Manuel Filehner (SEF Torres) With 11 goals, Manuel Filehner was the most accurate South Tyrolean professional. The 32-year-old from Signat quickly felt at home in Sardinia - and not just in terms of sport. Fischler played a fabulous season with the outsider Torres, but things didn't go according to plan in the playoffs. Nevertheless: Filehner had an outstanding season and showed that he is still a top player in Serie C.

David Wieser (Mantova) The Val Gardena native, who trained at FCS, Inter and Bologna, was promoted to Serie B with Mantova. An unforgettable experience. As a reward, there was a contract extension, but whether Wieser will stay at Mantova is questionable. A loan to Serie C could be an option. He played there 30 times last season (2 goals), but mostly as a substitute. For the midfielder, it was still a year that was more than just a success.

Emanuele Zuelli (Carrarese) He is still fighting for Serie B. The Bolzano midfielder was sometimes in the starting line-up for Carrarese, sometimes not. In the end he played 28 league games and was always used in the playoffs. The former Serie B professional didn't manage to achieve his greatest personal success; he certainly expected more. Nevertheless, the playing time could still culminate in promotion.

Simone Zanon (Carrarese) Zanon, who at 22 is an absolute top full-back in Serie C, is having a strong year. Was almost always in the starting line-up (37 appearances) – and that in only his second professional season. The Sinicher, who played at Napoli in his youth, still has a chance of promotion in the playoffs with Carrarese.

Federico Davi (Arzignano Valchiampo) The two-footed full-back has a future at FC Südtirol. Next season he will play with his brother Simone for the FCS professionals. In Serie C in recent years, Davi has matured into a strong full-back who can play left and right. This year he was also a regular player and was used 35 times.

Jonas Heinz (Fermana) The personal development in the spring could not be overlooked, but in the end the Naturnser and Fermana were relegated to Serie D. After only playing second violin at Taranto in the fall, he was usually allowed to play from the beginning in Fermi. The right-back ended up playing 2 games. Go back to FCS for now, but won't stay there.

Lorenzo Sgarbi will probably play in Serie B next season.

Lorenzo Sgarbi (Avellino) The dream of Series B is alive – in two senses. Sgarbi can still win the playoffs with Avellino. But even if not, the Bolzano player will play a league higher next year. He made sure of that himself with 7 goals and 15 assists (!). Sgarbi, who prefers to play on the “ten”, is on the wish list of Brescia and Modena. If Avellino gets promoted, he would like to stay.

Eljon Toci (Pro Sesto) After a messed up first half of the season, the qualities of the Merano native came to light in the spring. At Pro Sesto he got regular playing time and collected 7 scorer points (4 goals, 3 assists). His transfer rights lie with Fiorentina, and his future will probably be in Serie C next year. Conclusion: A decent first year as a professional.

The 2023/24 season is over for most South Tyrolean football professionals. Only Lorenzo Sgarbi (Avellino), Simone Zanon and Emanuele Zuelli (both Carrarese) are still in action in the Serie C playoffs. We take a look at the services.
