Karate Mühlbach: Successful start in Maser

On Sunday, the first of three stages of an interregional karate tournament took place in Maser, with around 900 athletes from North-East Italy participating – including 18 athletes from Karate Mühlbach.

In Kumite (sparring), Maria Peintner and Anna Gallmetzer (both 13 years old) surprised many – for the first time, the two athletes participated in the brown and black belt category and attracted attention with impressive performances: Maria Peintner won gold, Anna Gallmetzer won silver.

The performance of 17-year-old Laura Peintner continued in the same impressive fashion – after a prolonged dry spell, she managed to translate what she had practiced in training into a truly remarkable display on the competition mat, securing her third place. Bronze medals were also won by 13-year-old Julia Mair and 45-year-old Norbert Öttl, who competed in his first competition; his talent was well-known to the coaching team. "Seeing the potential in training is one thing; the competition itself, the fighting area, and handling this challenging situation are quite another, but Norbert delivered a convincing performance and even unsettled experienced opponents," said coach Martin Pezzei.

The podium was missed by 20-year-old Florian Fischnaller and 12-year-old Jonas Malleier (both in 5th place), with Jonas competing in his first Kumite competition; 7th place went to 20-year-old Jakob Silgoner.

In the kata (form competition), Greta Fischer and Tobias Erschbaumer were in a class of their own in their categories and won convincingly. Maria Peintner took home the bronze.

Julia Mair and Alan Stifter (both in 4th place) missed out on the podium, with Alan participating in a karate competition for the first time; Anna Gallmetzer (5th place), Pia Putzer and Noel Stifter (both in 7th place).

The following did not make it into the final of the top eight: Jonas Malleier, Michaela Amort, Hannah Bruni, Leni Rastner, Nina Seebacher and Linda Inkinen.
