Everything about the start of the second half of the season for bowlers

The women's A-League standings are splitting in two! The title race remains incredibly exciting, with Sarntal and Fugger Sterzing holding a clear lead after the first matchday of the second half of the season. Up to seventh-placed Tirol Mutspitz, however, there's no need to worry too much. But from eighth place onward, where Jaufenburg currently sits, the relegation battle is on. A gaping four-point gap has opened up between Tirol Mutspitz and Jaufenburg after their head-to-head match.

Tirol Mutspitz won their away game against Jaufenburg last Wednesday with a score of 4,5 to 1,5. This means that, besides Jaufenburg, Plose and Vöran Blecherne are also near the relegation zone, but they have a comfortable gap over Ridnauntal and especially newly promoted Pustertal, who still only have one point.

Jaufenburg's match against Tirol Mutspitz actually started excellently. Berta Zöschg immediately defeated Sara Waldner, winning 504:486 (3:1 in sets). The duel between Saskia Platter (Jaufenburg) and Dora Rinner (Tirol Mutspitz) then became highly exciting. Both bowlers won two sets each, and both finished with 555 pins, resulting in a split of the point.

In the third and fourth matches, however, Tirol Mutspitz struck back: First, Silvia Gaiser defeated Sieglinde Prinoth 529:476 (4:0 in sets), then Jasmin Ladurner followed up with a 522:506 victory against Alina Platter (3:1 in sets). The overall result would therefore decide the outcome. And there, Tirol Mutspitz had the edge by 51 pins, securing a celebrated 4,5:1,5 away victory thanks to a total of 2092:2041.

If 678 pins are not enough This kind of performance is usually only seen at the highest international level. Normally, 678 pins are enough for a match point in the A-class. But not for Passeier's Oswald Kofler. Admittedly, he was up against Neumarkt's Vilmos Zavarko, one of the best bowlers in the world. Zavarko scored 691 pins, meaning Passeier ultimately lost 0-8 without a single point.

When Zavarko and Kofler stepped onto the lanes, KK Neumarkt's victory in Leifers was already a done deal. But the duel between the two made Saturday afternoon's match memorable nonetheless. The level of bowling that Zavarko and Kofler conjured up on the lanes in the Leifers sports complex was absolutely top-notch. And it was an incredibly close duel: Zavarko took the first set, but Kofler delivered a phenomenal two sets (178 and 180 pins) to put the score at 2-1 in favor of the Passeier native. Zavarko, however, fought back, winning the final set decisively and ultimately securing the match point thanks to a superior pinfall of 691 to 678.

All four matches preceding this blockbuster duel also went to Neumarkt. First, Neumarkt's Erik Kuna defeated Passeier's Walter Pichler 631:558 (3,5:0,5 in sets), then Daniel Prinoth followed up with a 563:525 victory against Hugo Ennemoser (4:0 in sets). Tamás Kiss (Neumarkt) gave Hubert Schwarz (Passeier) no chance in the third match, securing victory with 611:527 (4:0 in sets), as did Alex Posch against Helmut Zipperle, with Posch winning 569:537 (3:1 in sets).

After Zavarko and Kofler, Armin Egger for Neumarkt and Markus Prünster for Passeier took to the lanes. Egger won decisively with 623:538 pins (4:0 in sets). Consequently, Neumarkt's 8:0 victory was never in doubt overall, and the Unterland team continues its march towards the title.
