Brixen is looking forward to the big climbing party again

It still takes 66 days until the big climbing festival can begin in the cathedral city and to which the organizers would like to welcome the international elite again. The vertical will be transformed into a climbing stadium for 3000 enthusiastic fans and will provide a more than worthy setting.

In recent years, with various initiatives, Brixen has developed a reputation as a city in which the topic of “mountains” plays a central role. The Boulder World Cup fits perfectly into this picture - even though the major event actually only came to the cathedral city by chance at the beginning of June 2022. After Russia invaded Ukraine, the stage in Moscow was canceled and quickly moved to Brixen, and thanks to the perfect organization at the premiere, the South Tyrolean stage could even become a fixture on the international calendar in the medium term. In any case, that should be the long-term goal of the team around Ralf Preindl and Alexandra Ladurner, who have initiated preparations for the Boulder World Cup 2023 with great commitment.

“Last year everything had to happen in quick succession, after all we only received the final confirmation for the World Cup in March. After that, the entire organization had to be up and running in just two months. This year we had a lot more lead time in this regard and that of course helps us a lot when planning this major event. Preparations are progressing quickly and we are really looking forward to the second edition of the Boulder World Cup in the Brixen Vertical. This anticipation can already be felt in the city itself when we talk to people,” says OK President Ralf Preindl.

Stars you can touch in Brixen For all climbing fans - a sport that traditionally has many fans in South Tyrol - the second weekend in June offers the opportunity to cheer along with the champions in their daring moves and acrobatic feats. “Of course we hope to welcome the strong Japanese Yoshiyuki Ogata, Tomoa Narasaki and Kokoro Fujii to Brixen, as well as the crowd favorite and last year's winner Yannick Flohé from Germany or the strong Frenchman Mejdi Schalck. In the women's category, last year's winner Natalia Grossmann (USA) thrilled our fans. We hope for her coming, just as we do for her compatriot Brooke Raboutou, the Japanese Miho Nonaka or the French Oriane Bertone,” explains Alexandra Ladurner, who herself was one of the strongest climbers in Italy for years.

Italy's athletes want to cause a sensation.

Filip Schenk is almost certainly among the local climbers. The native of Val Gardena caused a sensation at the European Championships in Munich last August, where he shone with strong performances and achieved fifth place in bouldering, among other things. With his compatriot Michael Piccolruaz, a second South Tyrolean could take part in the home World Cup in June, which should of course make the fans particularly happy. Camilla Moroni and Giorgia Tesio are likely to be seeded among the women. Who else will be part of the Italian team fighting for important World Cup points in Brixen will likely become clear in the next few weeks.

Brixen is looking forward to the big climbing party again

This year too, Brixen will be an international bouldering hotspot from June 9th to 11th. After the outstanding success of the World Cup premiere last year, it is not surprising that the International Sport Climbing Association (IFSC) has confirmed the South Tyrolean stage again this season.
