Lead Italy Cup: Silver medal for Moar

The second stage of the Italian Lead Climbing Cup took place last weekend at the new Salewa Cube climbing gym in Varese. Matilda Liú Moar narrowly missed the gold medal, taking home silver. Overall, the eleven-member AVS team of athletes achieved a good overall result.

From a South Tyrolean perspective, a total of eleven AVS athletes competed – eight women and three men. Following their very successful results in the first stage, the team traveled to Varese with correspondingly high expectations. In the qualifying round, seven South Tyrolean athletes (six women and one man) made it to the semifinals – a remarkable achievement.

The AVS athletes also showed great motivation in the semi-finals and delivered strong performances. In the end, however, only Matilda Liù Moar (AVS Brixen) managed to climb the semi-final route to the top and qualify for the final of the top eight as the second-best competitor.

Pure excitement

Matilda was unstoppable in the final: she climbed all the way to the top. However, since Savina Nicelli (Fiamme Oro) also reached the top and had finished ahead of the South Tyrolean in the qualification round, the gold medal went to Nicelli.
