Speed ​​climbing requires speed and endurance

The “GRP Gruppo Rocciatori Piaz” club held the 6th stage of the Junior Cup of the 2022-23 season in Mezzolombardo. The program included the speed discipline, i.e. speed climbing.

260 children and young people took part on May 5th and 6th. The competitions in the U16, U18 and U20 categories took place on Saturday. There were favorites again in the U16 category: Emmy Lang from AVS St. Pauls won in the women's category and Alex Pichler from AVS Meran won in the men's category. Emmy Lang is also an athlete in the youth national speed team and both have already won the first Speed ​​Junior Cup in Bolzano.

Agnese Fiorio (Arco Climbing) wins in the U18 category; She was already on the podium at the Speed ​​Italian Cup this year and in the competition on Saturday she achieved the best time of the day for women with 8.31 seconds. In the men's category, lead specialist Fritz Engele (AVS Meran) surprisingly wins with his best time of 8.28 seconds.

In the U20 category, Alina Benazzi from AVS Meran and Thomas Gilardi from AVS Bozen won. Both repeat their first places from the speed competition in Bolzano. Moritz Prünster from AVS Meran climbed the fastest time in the men's competition in the qualification (7.41 seconds), he took second place in the U20 category in the final. The U10, U12 and U14 categories competed on Sunday. For the youngest, i.e. the U10s, it was the first speed competition of this season. Johanna Hofer from AVS Brixen and Jonas Schuen from AVS Bruneck win.

There is a surprise victory for the U12 boys: Emil Weiss from AVS Bozen wins and thus achieves his first podium place and his first victory in the Junior Cup. In the girls’ category, Vera Nagler wins ahead of Nadja Ranalter. The two compete for AVS Brixen and always choose between each other to win. In the U14 boys category, two Meraners are in the lead. Daniel Oberrauch (AVS Meran) wins and thus achieves his first victory in the Junior Cup, second is Pier Giulio Paglierani, also AVS Meran. In the U14 girls, Sara Kofler from AVS Passeier won ahead of Vanessa Atz from AVS St. Pauls.

The last competition in the Junior Cup of the 2022-23 season will take place in Meran from May 12th to 14th. The discipline of bouldering will be held. The AVS state squad is supported by the state of South Tyrol, Salewa, Tiroler Versicherung and Alperia.
