3/4 half marathon: Hannes Rungger and Edi Lahner hand in hand to the finish

It's not just the name that's unusual about the Raiffeisen 3/4 Half Marathon. This time the outcome of the race on the 17.6 km long route was also unusual. Hannes Rungger and Edi Lahner are not only teammates, but also related by marriage. The two dominated the race from the start. Even record winner Hermann Achmüller couldn't keep up with the pace. “We constantly took turns leading the way. After 15 km we decided to run through the finish together,” says Rungger. The winner interviews were only given in pairs, but according to the regulations there has to be a winner. The timekeepers finally saw Rungger a tenth of a second ahead of Lahner. Achmüller followed in third place, one minute behind, and was very satisfied with that. Due to the sometimes gusty headwind, the winners did not come close to the course record. Only in 2008 was the winner slower than today. For Rungger it was the first victory in Sand in Taufers. His sister Renate is the record winner among women with seven successes.

Agnes Tschurtschenthaler triumphs among the women In their place, Agnes Tschurtschenthaler came up trumps today. Despite the headwind, the 29-year-old from Sesto ran in 1:03,17 hours, setting a new record since the route was extended in 2007. Tschurtschenthaler also heated up the men. Only twelve crossed the finish line ahead of her. Second-placed Mirella Bergamo was a record-breaking eight minutes behind. “I had an ideal slipstream and just ran with a group of men. I felt very good because I ran faster than planned,” said Tschurtschenthaler. The 10 km Italian champion is actually a track specialist. For her it was the premiere in the Top7 series. "I was looking for a new challenge this year. I'm running my first half marathon in October and from that point of view, this run was the ideal preparation for me." Third place went to Petra Pircher, immediately ahead of Top7 leader Edeltraud Thaler.

Not only were the winners happy, but also the organizers. "The decision to hold the race on Saturday evening was certainly the right one. In doing so, we accommodated those involved. This is also reflected in the number of participants, as we have never had 650 registered participants," says Willi Innerhofer happily. 519 runners were ultimately included in the rankings. The Top7 series will continue on September 25th with the Soltn mountain half marathon. The event above Jenesien is part of the Top7 series for the first time this year.
