All hands full: The Szczecin Cup is approaching

In three and a half weeks, one of South Tyrol's most traditional mountain races will take place. It's the Stettiner Cup in the Passeier Valley, which will take place for the 3th time on August 26rd.

The experience the organizing committee has gained over two and a half decades of preparing the Szczecin Cup is helpful. "Nevertheless, there are always surprises. No two editions are the same. Our goal is to get a little better every year. This year, for example, we launched a new website that makes registration and, above all, paying the entry fee much easier," explain the extremely dedicated organizers from the Moos Mountain Rescue Service.

What remains unchanged, however, is the route. The 10-kilometer route runs from the starting point at the parking lot in Pfelders up to the Stettiner Hütte at 2875 meters, descending 1255 meters in altitude. While the route is relatively flat at the beginning, towards the middle of the race it climbs higher and higher in steep switchbacks. This is where endurance athletes reach their physical limits and have to push their bodies to their limits.

A combination that is second to none

But these exertions are forgotten at the latest when the winners are awarded their prizes at the Stettiner Hütte in the early afternoon, followed by the atmospheric, indeed legendary after-race party. Anyone who participates in the legendary mountain run in the Passeier Valley becomes part of a strong community. And it is precisely this overall package that is hard to surpass by other events of the same category and, in combination with an extremely rich starter package with numerous products and goods from the Passeier Valley and the surrounding area, that ultimately defines the Stettiner Cup.

The Stettiner Cup celebrated its debut 26 years ago in the summer of 1999. Back then, the unforgettable Karl Gruber and Rosita Pirhofer were crowned the first daily winners. Since then, many well-known names, especially from the South Tyrolean mountain running scene, have added their names to the list of winners in the Passeier Valley. The Stettiner Cup has only been canceled once in these two and a half decades: during the coronavirus-hit summer of 2020. Registration for the current edition on August 3rd is still open.
