Car accident: Olympic champion escapes unharmed

Olympic long jump champion Tara Davis-Woodhall has declared her season over a few days after her car accident.

“After careful consideration with my team, we have decided to end the 2026 season,” Davis-Woodhall wrote on Instagram. “This hurts. I am sad, disappointed, and just hurt by all of this.”

Davis-Woodhall reported in a media briefing in early September, ahead of the inaugural Ultimate Championships in Budapest, that she had been involved in a car accident and suffered a severe concussion. The accident reportedly occurred on her way to a training session.

New athletics event

In a media briefing, Davis-Woodhall said she was "fortunately able to escape without major injuries." "Both cars are totaled. I can't say much more about the accident, but it's very frightening," the American explained. She left open in her Instagram post whether the severe concussion was directly related to her early end to the season.

The new athletics event takes place in Budapest from Friday to Sunday. A total of 10 million US dollars, equivalent to more than 8,6 million euros, will be awarded. The winners alone will each receive 150.000 US dollars.
