A multiple European champion will be making her debut in the women's 5 km elite race: Yasemin Can will be running her first BOclassic South Tyrol on New Year's Eve. The Turkish athlete of Kenyan descent has three European gold medals on the track (two over 10.000 m and one over 5.000 m) and no fewer than five continental cross-country titles on her CV. Can finished third at the last European Cross Country Championships, which were recently held in Antalya (Turkey).
In Bolzano, it will be a duel within a duel with Nadia Battocletti, who became European champion in the same competition in Antalya. The 28-year-old Can, who was lured to Bolzano by athlete manager Gianni Demadonna, is therefore a potential contender for victory. The race with the aforementioned Battocletti, Ludovica Cavalli, Aleshign Baweke and the other participants promises to be exciting and of a high standard.
Local hero Pattis also there
There will also be a premiere for the men. Alongside Yeman Crippa, Maxime Chaumeton, Oscar Chelimo, Eyob Faniel, Telahun Haile Bekele, Pietro Arese and others, Daniel Pattis will also be competing in the men's 10-kilometer elite race. The athlete from the Läufer Club Bozen Raiffeisen has already taken part in the New Year's Eve run in Bolzano in the past, but competed in the Ladurner Volkslauf (5 km) and reached the podium in three editions: in 2016 and 2018 he came third, and in 2019 second. The 26-year-old athlete from Tires has also achieved excellent results in trail running and mountain running. In June this year, Pattis contributed to the Italian men's team's bronze medal in the Up&Down mountain run at the Offroad European Championships in Annecy. Now he will take part in the BOclassic South Tyrol Elite race and let the enthusiasm of the Bolzano spectators be infected.
