Brixia Meeting: Kaserer and Springeth on the podium

The starting field at the most important U18 event in Central Europe this year included 21 teams, the majority of them from different regions of Italy, but also some from surrounding countries, such as the teams from Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, Ticino and Slovenia. In total, more than 750 young athletes, coaches and officials moved into their quarters in the Isarco Valley. For many athletes, the Brixia Meeting was a benchmark for the upcoming title fights in the summer: the U18 Italian Championships will take place in Molfetta at the beginning of July, and the U18 European Championships will take place in Banska Bistrica (Slovakia) in the middle of the month. All eyes were on Hannes Kaserer in Brixen today. The 16-year-old talent from Vinschger was one of the secret favorites in the 110 m hurdles. Kaserer lived up to the high expectations and stopped the time measurement at 14.15 seconds, which was enough for silver behind Kyan Escalona. The Roman even set a new Brixia meeting record in 13.45 seconds, with Nils Haumann from Baden-Württemberg completing the podium (14.16). Kaserer missed his previous best time by just a hundredth of a second. Maximilian Springeth also showed an extremely strong performance. The Neumarkt long jumper came third with a new personal best of 7.31 m. Springeth's best value was 6.94 m, he only had to bow to the Lombard superstar Daniele Leonardo Inzoli (7.79 m, also a new meeting best) and the Slovenian Demian Krizaj (7.47 m). Selma Göller also performed well among the women: the javelin thrower from ASC Passeier came in a good fifth with a new PB of 40.47 m. The shot putter Stephanie Schöpf from Lanan also secured fifth place (5 m). Hammer thrower Nicole Castlunger increased her personal U13.53 national record from 18 m to 44.13 m. Victory in the team ranking went to the selection from Lombardy, which came out ahead of Emilia Romagna (535,5) and Lazio (510) with 495 points. Huge performance by Hannes Kaserer and Maximilian Springeth at the 40th edition of the “Brixia Meeting” in Brixen. The 110 m hurdler from Schlanders and the long jumper from Neumarkt made it onto the podium.
