The autumn classic is calling: The 23rd Soltn Mountain Half Marathon is approaching

With its popular circuit with start and finish at the Jenesien equestrian center, the Soltn mountain half marathon has become a classic in the South Tyrolean running scene. And as with any self-respecting classic, the organizers rely on tried and tested formulas. On September 22nd, the 23rd edition of the popular race will take place on the same route. "As in previous years, the athletes will start at the Jenesien equestrian center and run 21,1 kilometers, 19 of which are on gravel paths through forests and meadows, with a total elevation gain of 520 meters," says Jürgen Wieser, the head of the "Soltnflitzer" of the ASV Jenesien Raiffeisen. The only question is whether the course records will continue to be maintained? The women's record held by Antonella Confortola (1:22.19 hours) has been unbeaten for 21 years, while the men's record by Kenyan Elisha Sawe dates back to 2005 (1:10.55 hours). The men's record winner, Hannes Rungger (2008, 2011, 2018), could also be caught. His pursuers with two triumphs include Andreas Reiterer, winner of the last two editions. Greta Haselrieder won the women's race for the first time last year. Was this her first step towards Confortola's four victories (2003, 2005, 2006, 2013)? That will be revealed on September 22nd. In addition to the main prizes, the two daily winners can also take home important points for the top 7 overall ranking. Monica Decassiani Palfrader (2004 points/7 races) currently leads the women's ranking, followed by Karolina Rosa Thaler (1943/7) and Hortenzia Elekne' Parizek (1820/7). In the men's ranking, Alex Puppatti (1851 points/7 races) leads the ranking, followed by Peter Riffesser (1804/7) and Khalid Jbari (1770/5). But everything can still change, because the formula of the South Tyrolean running series takes into account the best seven placings from nine races. 10 kilometers for passionate runners and amateurs Not only the athletes' preparations, but also those of the organizers are in full swing: "We are on the right track, everything is going according to plan," says Wieser. He and his well-coordinated team have been working on the runs on September 22nd for months. The Soltn Half Marathon starts at 10 a.m., and half an hour later another exciting challenge begins: Then the athletes of the sixth SoltnRun will set off from the Salten plateau, above the Edelweiss Hotel, to run 10 kilometers with 140 meters of elevation to the finish at the Jenesien equestrian center. As always, they will reach the starting point on foot from the equestrian center. Amateurs can take part in the "Just for Fun" run on the same route. This non-competitive run, for which no sports medical certificate is required, will start five minutes after the SoltnRun. So it will be another running festival that many runners will not want to miss. "We have already received a lot of registrations, which is the same as in previous years. Experience has shown that more will be added in the next few days," says Wieser. You can register online at www.soltnflitzer.it until September 18. The registration fee for the Soltn Mountain Half Marathon (21,1 km, 520 m elevation gain) and the SoltnRun (10 km, 140 m elevation gain) is 32 euros, and the Just-for-Fun Run (non-competitive) costs 25 euros. Food along the route, shower service and a rich race package with local products are included in the price, as is the transport of backpacks from the start of the SoltnRun and Just-for-Fun Run to the finish at the equestrian center. On Sunday, September 22nd, you can register on site between 8 and 9 a.m. for an additional charge.
