The fastest children in South Tyrol

After around 300 children from all over South Tyrol had qualified for the state final, the young sprinters ran on Sunday, September 8th on the athletics track in Brixen for the VSS/Raiffeisen state championship title and for a place in the big Euregio final of the SprintChampions.

Over the past few months, more than 1.200 children took part in the SprintChampion qualifying races in South Tyrol's village centers. The five fastest children in each category and stage qualified for the state finals in Brixen.

On Sunday, September 8th, the time had come. The children in the U8, U10, U12 and U14 categories sprinted over 60 meters on six lanes for victory. The finals in particular were hard to beat in terms of excitement. In some races, the winner could only be determined by a photo finish.

In addition to the parents and siblings of the starters, numerous guests of honor were also seen in the audience. In addition to Peter Brunner, the regional sports councilor, Esther Kammerer from the management of the Raiffeisenkasse Eisacktal, VSS chairman Paul Romen, the VSS district representatives Armin Niedermair and Josef Platter, and the VSS athletics representative Reinhold Rogen were present at the regional finals and were enthusiastic about the young sprinters.

"You are the future of sport in South Tyrol. Even if you are not all in first place, you are all winners and can be proud of yourselves," said State Sports Councilor Peter Brunner. Esther Kammerer, Paul Romen and Reinhold Rogen also used their greetings to congratulate the children and thank the parents: "Every year we are pleased about the increasing number of participants, and we owe this to the parents who support and encourage their children."

In any case, one highlight still awaits the fastest young sprinters in the country: On Saturday, October 5, 2024, the big Euregio final of the SprintChampions will be held on Waltherplatz in Bolzano, where the VSS/Raiffeisen national champions will compete against the fastest children from Trento and Tyrol.
