EuregioSprintChampions determined at Waltherplatz

For the fifth time, the VSS, ASVÖ Tirol and CSI Trento searched for the Euregio Sprint Champion. A total of 120 children from Tyrol, South Tyrol and Trentino sprinted for the coveted title on Bolzano's Waltherplatz in the U8, U10, U12 and U14 categories. After preliminary rounds in the respective regions, the fastest 5 children per category and gender qualified for the big Euregio final. "The aim of the South Tyrolean Sprint Champion is to bring athletics to village centers and thus make the sport accessible to everyone. In order to remain true to this concept at the big Euregio final, we organized the Euregio final in the middle of Bolzano's old town," explains VSS chairman Paul Romen.

The Euregio President, South Tyrol's Governor Arno Kompatscher, was delighted "that under the South Tyrolean presidency we are hosting the big Euregio final in our beautiful state capital this year. It is great that we are able to welcome so many delegations from Trentino and the state of Tyrol." In keeping with the South Tyrolean presidency motto "Overcoming borders", Kompatscher wished all young talents "that, in addition to their focus on sport, they also experience and learn to appreciate respect for one another, curiosity about one another and diversity among one another."

Tyrol's governor Anton Mattle agrees in his video message: "The SprintChampion not only brings the joy of sprinting to the districts and cities, but also brings children and young people from all three parts of the country together at the grand finale and strengthens the team spirit of our Euregio." The governor of Trentino, Maurizio Fugatti, also welcomed the initiative: "The finale of the EuregioSprintChampion offers a great opportunity to engage in sporting activities. But the focus is not just on competition. It is important that the children and young people - in the spirit of the Euregio - learn the meaning of solidarity beyond the borders of our countries."

The fifth edition of the EuregioSprintChampions also used the stage to send a strong message of integration and inclusion. The final was embedded in the festival of inclusion, which was organized by the sports group for the physically disabled in South Tyrol. "The winner's trophies also come from the GWB social cooperative," explain the VSS speakers Reinhold Rogen (athletics) and Markus Kompatscher (sports for the disabled).

From a sporting point of view, the sprinters from South Tyrol in particular stood out this year with a total of five gold medals. Second place went to the young athletes from Tyrol with two daily victories. The runners from Trentino won a gold medal at the end. The President of the ASVÖ Hubert Piegger and his entire board, the President of the CSI Trento Gaia Tozzo, the President of the USSA Paolo Trotter, Euregio General Secretary Christoph von Ach and Astrid Schweiggl from the Raiffeisen Association were also delighted about this. They all made sure to cheer on the young sprinters.
