Lake Kaltern Half Marathon is the spring classic

For five years, the Kalterersee half marathon marked the start of the Top7 running series. This year the event kicked off with the BOclassic New Year's Eve Run in Bolzano. With 449 participants it couldn't have been better. Things should continue just as furiously at the Kalterersee-Habmarathon. After all, the run at the start of the spring season attracts numerous running enthusiasts every year. Last year, the organizing South Tyrolean running club even recorded a new record starting field with over 700 registered participants.

The start will take place on April 3rd at 10 a.m. at the parking lot in St. Josef am See. The handbikers start ten minutes earlier. The start is in a southerly direction. For the half marathon, the popular swimming lake has to be circled twice. “We rely on the tried and tested. This also includes the festival at 12 p.m. in the finish area with a lottery and a family-friendly supporting program with a bouncy castle and a craft corner,” says running club president Frieda Viertler. For the less experienced, the Panorama Run (1 lap around the lake, 10.550 m) is being offered for the third time.

The Kalterersee half marathon also attracts numerous top runners every year. The Italo-Moroccan Said Boudalia has already triumphed four times at Lake Kaltern. Among the women, Simona Viola, Maja Gautschi and Sonia Maria Lopes from Cape Verde are among the previous winners. The only South Tyrolean victory so far has been Petra Pircher in 2009.

Registrations for the 6th Kalterersee Half Marathon are online ( www.kalterersee-halbmarathon.com ) or via fax (0471/4245216). The participation fee is 28 euros until March 25th. Late registrations (35 euros) are possible until 18 p.m. the evening before the race. Participation in the panoramic run costs 15 or 20 euros. The starter package this year includes, among other things, a backpack. A lottery offers great prizes, including a travel voucher worth 1500 euros. It's worth taking part because the prices for the Top7 running series are also impressive. Two starter packages for the 2012 Berlin Marathon and seven wellness weekends for two people each in South Tyrol will be raffled off among those who take part in all seven events.
