Lake Kaltern Half Marathon breaks all records

The organizing South Tyrolean running club was worried about the scheduling conflict with the Vivicittà run in Bolzano. But the worries were unfounded. The participant record from last year (629 starters) is far exceeded this year. Three days before the race, 800 runners had already registered.

"I think we will score points with the participants with good organization, an attractive running program with two routes of different lengths, the family-friendly supporting program and of course with the wonderful panorama of Lake Kaltern. And this time the weather should also cooperate," says running club president Frieda Viertler happily to the sixth edition of South Tyrol's second largest half marathon.

The Kalterersee half marathon has so far been firmly in foreign hands. Moroccan-born Said Boudalia has already won four times in the men's event. Last year's winner Sonia Lopes comes from Cape Verde. It's quite possible that one or two of the top foreign runners will decide to start at the last moment. There was only one South Tyrolean victory: in 2009 by Petra Pircher. The 40-year-old from Lasa is also good for a top placement this year. For the women, the top 7 overall winner in 2010 Gertraud Höllrigl, Edeltraud Thaler (4th last year) and, above all, Mirella Bergamo from Trentino are also eligible for a podium place.

Of the top local runners, Rudi Brunner from Meran is at the start. Above all, Adriano Pinamonti from the Non Valley, who came fourth last year, has to be on the list. Georg Brunner (South Tyrolean running club) is there as a pacesetter.

The start takes place on Sunday at 10 a.m. at the parking lot in St. Josef am See. The handbikers start 10 minutes earlier. The start is in a southerly direction. For the half marathon, the popular swimming lake has to be circled twice.

Due to the high number of participants, participants in the panoramic run (1 lap, 10.550 m) start five minutes later. Speaking of panoramic running. The lake circuit is in the program for the third time and has proven itself. Last year there were 149 at the start, this year there are already 240.

Late registrations for the 6th Kalterersee Half Marathon are online ( www.kalterersee-halbmarathon.com ) or via fax (0471/4245216) until Saturday at 18 p.m. A lottery offers great prizes, including a travel voucher worth 1500 euros.

The sixth edition of the Kalterersee half marathon breaks all records. Over 800 runners have already registered. There could be a few more by Sunday. The start of the second stage of the Top7 running series takes place on Sunday at 10 a.m. in St. Josef am See.
