New record at the Stelvio Trail Run

More than 320 runners from 21 nations tackled the Stelvio Trail Run in Prato allo Stelvio, including numerous locals as well as well-known national and international athletes. With perfect views of King Ortler and brilliant sunshine, the participants mastered 2.100 meters of elevation gain and 21 challenging kilometers in three categories: "Competitive," "Just for Fun," and "Jochmarsch."

The starting gun for the "Jochmarsch" (joch march) rang out at 7.15:8 a.m., cheered on by numerous fans in the center of Prad am Stilfserjoch. The starters in the "Competitive" and "Just for Fun" categories followed at XNUMX a.m. Due to the forest fire in the spring, this year's route took place along the cycle path via Schmelz to Stilfs – a gentle start that was well received. "The first section was ideal for warming up," commented local hero Anton Steiner with satisfaction.

After that, the route remained unchanged: after the mountain village of Stilfs to the Furkelhütte and over the Goldseeweg to the Dreisprachenspitze at 2.845 meters, the highest finish in South Tyrol.

Excitement until the summit With a new event record of 2:01:33, Austrian Robert Berger crowned himself the day's winner. Defending champion Konstantin Wedel of Germany narrowly missed the win, finishing second with a time of 2:02:07. Andreas Innerebner of the Sarntaler Lauffreunde secured third place with a time of 2:06:25.

The women's podium looked the same as last year, albeit with a different order. In the women's race, Katharina Esswein from Germany finally achieved her big coup after two years in second place. She deservedly took the win with a time of 2:31:42. Second place also went to Germany, with Franziska Schmieder crossing the finish line in 2:2:32. Michaela Gerychova from the Czech Republic followed closely behind with a time of 47:2:34, thus being the last to climb onto the podium. The best South Tyrolean was sixth-placed Edeltraud Thaler (Merano), crossing the finish line in 39:2:42.

The Ortler in the background also provided a fantastic backdrop during the Jochmarsch.

Starting at 11 a.m., the organizing committee invited everyone to a relaxed get-together at the festival grounds in the center of Prad. The winners were celebrated with regional specialties from the Prad hunting grounds and musical entertainment. In addition to the top ten women and men in the "Competitive" category, the five participants who came closest to the average time in the "Just for Fun" and "Jochmarsch" categories were honored.
