Battocletti from Nonsberg writes sports history

After winning the silver medal in the 10.000 meters, Nadia Battocletti swept the field again at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. The Trentino native also landed on the podium in the 5.000 meters.

Nadia Battocletti won the bronze medal in the 5.000 meters at the World Championships in Tokyo. The Azzurra thus entered the history books of Italian sports: only Pietro Mennea (1983) and Francesco Panetta (1987) have won two medals for Italy at a World Championship.

Battocletti's bronze medal also broke another milestone: In 1995, Italy won six World Championship medals in Gothenburg. With the Trentino athlete's third place in Tokyo, that total now stands at seven.

Battocletti was among the leading group from the start of the 5.000-meter race. The 25-year-old from Cles crossed the finish line in a time of 14:55,42 minutes. Gold went to Beatrice Chebet (14:54,36 minutes) of Kenya. She clearly had the stamina in the final against her compatriot Faith Kipyegon (14:55,07 minutes).
