Showtime for the Seiser Alm Half Marathon

The Seiser Alm Half Marathon is a magnet for participants, like something out of a picture book. The 900 available starting places have been sold out for months. The lucky runners who managed to secure a bib number are now ready: This Sunday, July 6, at 9 a.m., the starting gun will fire for one of South Tyrol's most popular running events for the 12th time.

For the 11th edition last year, 700 starting places were still available, and they sold out in no time, so the organizers, led by Helmut Mitterstieler, President of Seiser Alm Marketing and head of the organizing committee, decided to increase the field by 200 participants. But even this couldn't withstand the rush for the Seiser Alm Half Marathon: As of April 17, all starting places have been taken.

This is hardly surprising, of course. At the prestigious race on Europe's largest high alpine pasture, you're treated to the complete package – outstanding organization meets one of the most beautiful panoramas in the Alps. Furthermore, the Seiser Alm Half Marathon has always been a winner with a diverse, international field of participants and numerous top athletes.

This year, the runners are primarily from South Tyrol again. The Seiser Alm Half Marathon is part of the South Tyrolean Top7 running series, and thus, on Sunday, July 6, there will be a battle for important points for the overall ranking. The many spectators are particularly excited about Greta Haselrieder and Markus Ploner. The two South Tyroleans – she is from Bruneck, he from Vipiteno – are last year's winners. Haselrieder is already a force to be reckoned with at the Seiser Alm Half Marathon: the Pustertal native won again in 2022, and in 2023 she finished second behind Benedetta Coliva.

International line-up with plenty of favorite faces

But other South Tyroleans are also slipping into the role of favorites: Selina Christandl from Vinschgau, Samuel Demetz from Val Gardena, Benjamin Eisendle from Ratschings, Martin Griesser and Severine Petersen from Freienfeld, Khalid Jbari from Bolzano, Alex Puppatti and Stefan Unterhuber from Pustertal, Irene Senfter and Frowin Stecher from Lanan are among the best endurance athletes in this country and will want to have a say in the fight for victory.

But we can also expect something from the numerous participants from beyond South Tyrol's borders: After all, athletes from up to 40 different nations participate in the Seiser Alm Half Marathon. A particularly exciting prospect is Arianna Lutteri from Verona: She has already won the Italian Marathon Championship in the SM35 category this year and is therefore one of the top contenders for the day's victory.

Everything is now set up on the Seiser Alm for a running festival unparalleled in South Tyrol. The start is set for 9 a.m. All participants have the opportunity to travel free of charge on the Seiser Alm cable car to the start/finish area in Compatsch, including the return trip to the valley station in Seis am Schlern. Spectators and interested parties can use the cable car for a special price of €15 (round trip).
