Pole vault meeting: The marble trophies have arrived

The days are passing, and the Schlanders pole vault meeting is fast approaching. On Friday, July 31st, top international pole vaulters will compete in the cultural center square of the Vinschgau market town. The winners will receive trophies made of genuine Laas and Göflan marble. These trophies were presented to the public at a press conference on Wednesday.

The Schlanders pole vault meeting has long since made a name for itself not only in the Vinschgau Valley, but throughout Italy and even beyond. And yet, the organizers remain committed to their local roots: "From sponsorship and setting up the venue to dismantling it, we try to involve businesses from the Vinschgau Valley in every aspect. Ultimately, the municipality of Schlanders and the entire valley should benefit from the meeting," announced organizing committee head Dieter Pinggera to those present at the press conference on Wednesday in the Lasa Marmor Remise in Laas. Representatives of the main sponsors and institutions were also in attendance. They, too, spoke and thanked the organizing committee for their excellent cooperation.

The highlight of the event was the unveiling of the trophies for this year's winners. As usual, they were crafted from genuine Laas and Göflan marble, which is no small feat: "These two companies are actually competitors. But here they collaborate and provide us with these magnificent trophies, which never fail to amaze the athletes," Pinggera remarked with delight. Athlete manager Johannes Kaserer shared an anecdote: "When we contacted last year's winner, Juliana De Menis Campos, she said she wanted to keep participating in Schlanders until she could completely decorate her bathroom with the marble trophies," he chuckled.

Negotiations with a French Springer

Indeed, Brazilian De Menis Campos will be competing again in Schlanders on Friday, July 31st, as will last year's men's winner, Dutchman Menno Vloon, and numerous other top international ski jumpers. "There are no new names to announce at the moment. However, we are in negotiations with a top French jumper. That would be a first for Schlanders, as no Frenchman has ever competed here before," Kaserer updated those present, without revealing too much.

The press conference was held in the Lasa Marmor coach house in Laas.

To offer optimal conditions for the athletes and spectators alike, no effort was spared for this year's Schlanders pole vault meeting. "This year we're improving the lighting effects and the acoustics to put on an even bigger show. In addition, some of the pole vault stands will be decorated with Göflan marble bases to enhance the visual appeal," announced technical director Michael Traut.

Summaries on national television

There's also been some movement on the national stage: The national broadcaster RAI will air two 30-minute summaries of the ski jumping event in Schlanders. "That's a nice bonus for us, but also for all our loyal sponsors, because it generates even more reach," Pinggera concluded happily.
