South Tyrol Drei Zinnen Alpine Run: It starts in 100 days!

A demanding route in a unique setting, coupled with perfect organization – these are probably the three ingredients that make the “Südtirol Drei Zinnen Alpine Run” one of the most renowned mountain runs in the world. The course is 17,5 kilometers long and winds from the village center of Sexten over Moos, through the lush green larch meadows of the Fischleintal to the Fischleinbodenhütte and further to the TalEndhütte. Then continue left at the Bacherntal-Altensteinertal junction towards the Zsigmondyhütte, from where the selective serpentine path to the Zsigmondyhütte, further to the Büllelejochhütte at 2575 meters above sea level and then in front of the Paternkofel, above the Lake Constance, on the last three kilometers down to the finish at the Drei Zinnen Hut at an altitude of 2405 meters.

A challenging route with an elevation gain of 1350 meters that attracts some of the best mountain runners in the world every year. Last year, the 2008 vice mountain running world champion, South Tyrolean Renate Rungger (Sarntal) and the 2012 mountain running world champion, Petro Mamu from Eritrea, prevailed. Mamu won in 1:22.46 hours, Rungger's stopwatch stopped after 1:49.28 hours.

But it's not just the mountain running elite who come to Sesto - especially for the many recreational runners, the "Südtirol Drei Zinnen Alpine Run" is an unforgettable mountain experience in the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage Site. So it's no wonder that around three and a half months before the starting signal, more than a quarter of the starting places have already been taken. 268 participants from 12 nations have already registered for the 17th edition of the spectacular mountain run in the Sesto Dolomites on Saturday, September 13th. For just under a week (until June 13th) anyone interested can register for an entry fee of 50 euros on the official website of the “Südtirol Drei Zinnen Alpine Run” (www.dreizinnenlauf.com). After that, the participation fee costs 60 euros up to one week before the race.

For the mountain runners of tomorrow, the “Mini Drei Zinnen Run” will take place on Sunday, September 14th. And because the run for all children and young people is being organized for the tenth time this year, the organizers have come up with something very special. There will be a painting competition on the theme of “Running in the mountains” for all children up to 12 years old, while 13 to 18 year olds can take part in a smartphone photo competition on the same theme.

“Draw your best running experience with friends, parents, grandma or grandpa. Show us what you experience during the Mini Drei Zinnen Run, how you cheer on your friends, or something similar. There are no limits to your imagination: make collages, make drawings, paint real works of art. There are great prizes to be won,” explains OK boss Gottfried Hofer.
