South Tyroleans impress at the Quercia meeting in Rovereto

The athletics aces are slowly but surely back in constant action. On Wednesday the local athletes showed off at the “56. “Quercia d'Oro” meeting in Rovereto top performances.

Javelin thrower Alessia Goffi performed particularly well. The only 18-year-old from Val Gardena took a strong second place with 42.10 m behind Paola Padovan (52.63). Goffi's sister Chiara, who is two years older, came fourth with 38.85 m. Marie Burger from Vahrn also narrowly missed the podium, having to settle for fourth and fifth place in the 4 m hurdles and 100 m respectively.

The men were also able to put themselves in the limelight in Rovereto. Matteo Bizzotto from the Bolzano club CSS Leonardo da Vinci came third in the shot put with 10.19 m. His teammate, high jumper Furio Xul Robinson (1.70 m) also secured bronze. Positive notes also come from the U18 athletes: Hannes Kaserer from Vinschger prevailed in the 110 m hurdles in 14.69 seconds in a purely South Tyrolean affair ahead of Frederic Schöpf (14.95) from Lana and Nicolas Filehner from Eisacktal (15.06). Maximilian Springeth was also at the top of the podium, crossing 1.91 m in the high jump. Shot putter Luca De Biasi came third with 12.95 m, and in the women's category, javelin thrower Hannah Thaler from Bruneck took silver with 36.56 m.

The first highlight of the spring season is the regional club championship in Bolzano on May 18th and 19th. The regional club titles are awarded on a single weekend.
