Battocletti won the women's 5.000-meter final, successfully defending her European title from Rome two years ago. The 26-year-old from Cles dominated the race, controlling her competitors until the final 250 meters. She then unleashed an irresistible final sprint, crossing the finish line in 15:37,84 minutes.

Behind her, Spaniard Marta Garcia finished second in 15:39,98 minutes. Another Italian, Micol Majori, came in third in 15:40,65 minutes, securing the bronze medal in a completely unexpected and sensational result.

For Battocletti, it was her third European Championship title on the track. After her two titles at the previous European Championships in Italy over 5.000 and 10.000 meters, the reigning BOclassic champion from Bolzano will certainly be aiming for her fourth continental title in the 10.000 meters. The final over this distance takes place on Friday.
