Ferrari hearts break in the final meters

Lewis Hamilton narrowly missed qualifying at the British Grand Prix. The British Ferrari driver carelessly let it slip away in the final act.

In a dramatic Q3 in front of his home crowd, Hamilton was right on track, improving significantly in sectors 1 and 2 and snatching pole position in the final seconds of qualifying. However, the 40-year-old made two small errors in the final sector that cost him dearly in the final standings. On Sunday, Hamilton, who has celebrated nine wins at Silverstone so far, will start the race from fifth (+0,203 seconds). Pole position went to four-time world champion Max Verstappen (Red Bull) on Saturday afternoon.

Following the Dutchman are the two McLaren drivers Oscar Piastri (+0,103) and Lando Norris (+0,118), who are entering the next round of their World Championship battle. Piastri currently leads the title race with 216 points, with Norris lurking just 15 points behind. Hamilton's teammate Charles Leclerc finished sixth in qualifying (+0,229).
