In the chaos of Monaco: Antonelli wins again

The new Formula 1 prince Kimi Antonelli has won his fifth consecutive Grand Prix victory at the Monaco classic and is leaving his World Championship rivals further and further behind.

Even on the narrow streets of Monte Carlo, the 19-year-old Mercedes prodigy, completely unfazed by potholes and a long race interruption, left everyone else in his dust. The Italian is now the youngest Monaco winner ever.

Lewis Hamilton in the Ferrari and Red Bull driver Isack Hadjar finished second and third, respectively, in the box of Prince Albert II. Local hero Charles Leclerc lost a podium finish in the second Ferrari due to a crash ten laps before the end.

Red Bull superstar Max Verstappen's race ended early when engine problems caused him to drop from second on the grid to the back of the field. Antonelli's teammate George Russell also failed to keep pace and, after receiving a drive-through penalty, finished without any points. In the World Championship standings, the Italian already holds a 66-point lead over the new runner-up, Hamilton, after six races.

Problems with the asphalt and a 40-minute interruption

The end of a race that had been largely uneventful turned turbulent. After two safety car periods, the race was interrupted ten laps from the finish when the asphalt began to disintegrate in Turn 19. All cars had to return to the pits, and the section was thoroughly inspected by race control. After a nearly 40-minute delay, the race was restarted from a standing start and was eventually completed. Antonelli kept his composure and snatched the victory.
