Last Formula 1 cockpit goes to a Frenchman

The Racing Bulls have awarded the last Formula 1 cockpit for the coming season to the young Frenchman Isack Hadjar (20).

As Red Bull's sister team announced, the former Formula 2 driver will drive alongside Japanese Yuki Tsunoda (24) in the new year. The cockpit next to Tsunoda had become vacant because New Zealander Liam Lawson had become the second Red Bull driver alongside world champion Max Verstappen after the split with Sergio Perez from Mexico.

In his second Formula 2 season, Hadjar finished second behind Gabriel Bortoleto, who in turn moved up to Kick Sauber, the future Audi factory team. Hadjar is now the 19th driver from the Red Bull juniors to make it to Formula 2001 since 1.

“He has the talent and drive to compete at the highest level and we are confident that he will adapt quickly and make an important contribution,” said team boss Laurent Mekies.
