Max Verstappen's historic day in Canada

The Dutchman beat Fernando Alonso in the Aston Martin and Lewis Hamilton in the Mercedes to the other podium places. Only four other teams – Ferrari, McLaren, Mercedes and Williams – had previously reached the mark of 100 Grand Prix victories.

Defending champion Verstappen further extended his lead in the world championship standings as teammate Sergio Perez couldn't get past sixth place at the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve. It was Verstappen's 41st Grand Prix victory, equaling the life's work of three-time world champion Ayrton Senna. This season, the 25-year-old won the eighth race for the sixth time. The remaining two victories are on Perez’s account.

Red Bull contested its first season in Formula 2005 in 1, with its first victory achieved by Sebastian Vettel in April 2009 in Shanghai. “It’s a shame that he couldn’t live to see that,” said Helmut Marko about Red Bull founder Dietrich Mateschitz, who died in 2022 and who once bought the Jaguar team and redesigned it according to his ideas. “It was a big risk back then. Our expectations were that we might win a Grand Prix,” explained the former Mateschitz intimate in the ServusTV interview.

Exclamation mark from Ferrari Ferrari also cut a good figure on Sunday. Charles Leclerc ended up in fourth place, one position behind his stablemate Carlos Sainz. This is a strong exclamation mark for the Scuderia after the last few weeks have not always gone as planned.

Haas driver Nico Hülkenberg was unlucky. In qualifying, the German sensationally took second place, but received a penalty for a flag violation and started from fifth place. There he went into the pits one lap before a safety car phase, which is why he was handed back and finished 2th.

The ninth race of the season will take place in two weeks at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg. Before the 36th Austrian Grand Prix in Formula 1 on Sunday, July 2nd, another sprint is scheduled the day before. Perez won the first in Baku at the end of April.

Max Verstappen's historic day in Canada

The Austrian Formula 1 team Red Bull Racing has had 100 victories in the premier motorsport class since Sunday. World champion Max Verstappen made sure of that, winning confidently from pole position in Montreal.
