Red Bull files protest against George Russell

Red Bull is fighting for a podium finish for Formula 1 World Champion Max Verstappen.

The racing team filed a protest against George Russell in the Mercedes after the Miami Grand Prix. The Englishman allegedly violated the rules by not slowing down despite yellow flags after Kick-Sauber driver Gabriel Bortoleto came to a stop on the Florida track.

Verstappen attempted to displace Russell from third place at the end of the race, but the Red Bull star was unable to do so and had to settle for fourth place, 2,3 seconds behind.

Russell misses the press conference

Verstappen, however, instructed his team to investigate the suspicion against Russell. The Red Bull command center later warned the four-time world champion over the radio not to be more than five seconds behind the Mercedes. Red Bull is speculating on a time penalty against Russell, who missed the official press conference of the top three drivers due to health reasons.

In the World Championship standings, Verstappen is already 32 points behind championship leader Oscar Piastri in his McLaren. The next race is in two weeks at Imola.
