The 19-year-old Italian Mercedes driver prevailed in an entertaining race against British local hero and pole-sitter Lewis Hamilton (Ferrari). Last year's winner, Lando Norris (McLaren), finished third ahead of Spielberg winner George Russell. Antonelli thus extended his championship lead over his Mercedes teammate Russell by three points to 43.
On Saturday, qualifying (5:00 PM) for Sunday's British Grand Prix (4:00 PM CEST/both live on ORF 1 and Sky) was on the schedule. Red Bull driver Max Verstappen had to settle for sixth place in the fourth sprint of the year, behind Charles Leclerc (Ferrari).

After crossing the finish line, Mercedes boss Toto Wolff contacted Antonelli and asked with a wink: "Does the fastest lap at the end make you happy?" The 19-year-old replied with a smile: "Yes, it makes me even happier."
Fight for second place
In the early stages, Hamilton, Silverstone's record holder with nine Grand Prix victories, defended his lead against Antonelli. Behind them, a five-way battle ensued, including several overtaking maneuvers, between Norris, Verstappen, Russell, Leclerc, and Oscar Piastri (McLaren). The leading duo extended their advantage over the chasing pack to several seconds. On lap 8 of 17, the Mercedes rising star overtook Hamilton's Ferrari and comfortably brought home the victory.Edit Profile
