Stroll's surprise retirement puts Aston Martin under pressure

After Lance Stroll's surprise withdrawal from the Spanish Grand Prix, his Formula 1 racing team Aston Martin is also under time pressure.

The next Grand Prix is just two weeks away – it's Stroll's home race in Canada. Formula 1 doesn't take a longer summer break until August.

How long Stroll will be out is currently unclear. The 26-year-old, whose father Lawrence is a co-owner of the team, will have to undergo surgery on his right wrist.

Two reserve drivers at Aston Martin

Aston Martin has appointed 25-year-old Brazilian Felipe Drugovich, a former Formula 2 champion, as its reserve driver. He also stepped in when Stroll suffered a broken wrist in a cycling accident in early 2023, among other injuries, and missed pre-season testing. 33-year-old Belgian Stoffel Vandoorne is also under contract with Aston Martin as a reserve driver.

Stroll suffered fractures to both wrists and a broken toe in the cycling accident. He has scored 14 points in the races so far this year. Teammate Fernando Alonso has yet to score a single point before his home race today (15.00:XNUMX p.m.).
