Verstappen without driving enjoyment: Will he resign?
Frustrated by the new Formula 1 technical regulations, four-time world champion Max Verstappen is increasingly threatening to retire. "I'm thinking about everything that's going on here in the pit lane," the 28-year-old Dutchman said after the race in Japan.

He said he was very happy personally, but now had to wait around 20 races before the sporting conditions in Formula 1 could change again. "And then you simply ask yourself: Is it worth it? Or do I enjoy being at home with my family more? Seeing my friends more often, if I'm not having fun with the sport?" said the Red Bull driver.
Verstappen has long been complaining about the new regulations, under which the electric component of the engine plays a much larger role. Drivers have to constantly recharge the battery and lift off the throttle more often. This doesn't suit Verstappen's talent at all.
Already a big deficit in the World Cup
“Of course I’m trying to adapt, but the way you have to drive here isn’t nice. It’s really the opposite of driving fun. And at some point, it’s just not what I want to do anymore,” Verstappen explained. He added that it wasn’t simply about making more money in Formula 1.Served by: Max Verstappen © ANSA / FRANCK ROBICHON / POOL
The former multiple champion insisted his frustration didn't stem from his car's current poor performance. After three races, he sits ninth in the championship, already 60 points behind leading Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli. He could accept seventh or eighth place finishes, Verstappen said. At the same time, he reiterated: "I want to be here to have fun, have a great time, and enjoy myself. But at the moment, that's not really the case."
Verstappen has a contract with the Red Bull team until 2028, but according to industry experts, he has an exit clause at the end of the season. He has recently participated in several endurance races. His father, Jos, also issued a warning via Telegraaf He already said: “Driving these cars doesn’t challenge him. Honestly, I’m afraid Max will lose his motivation.”
