“I was quite surprised”: Antonelli also thanks Sinner
Kimi Antonelli has already looked ahead after his maiden victory in Formula 1 – and also thanked Jannik Sinner.

“I was somewhat surprised by his dedication,” Antonelli said in a media briefing at Bologna airport upon his return from Shanghai. There, on Saturday, he had become the youngest driver in history to secure his first pole position, and a day later he celebrated his debut victory in Formula 1. “I really appreciated that. It was very kind, and I thanked him,” the 19-year-old rising star continued. Reflecting on his triumphant run in China, the Mercedes driver was ecstatic. “The best day of my life,” said Antonelli. “Winning my first Grand Prix is the fulfillment of my biggest dreams. But this is just the beginning.”
World Championship battle with teammate Russell?
After two Grand Prix weekends, Antonelli is second in the World Championship standings (47 points), ahead only by teammate George Russell (51). Based on initial impressions, Mercedes is considered the clear favorite for both the Constructors' and Drivers' Championships, with only Ferrari, led by Charles Leclerc (37) and Lewis Hamilton (33), able to keep pace. "This is a start, we're on the right track, but it won't be easy," said Antonelli. "Now comes the next step, the World Championship, the biggest and most difficult challenge.
