Aprilia celebrates triple victory at Silverstone

The MotoGP World Championship race at Silverstone on Sunday resulted in a triple victory for Aprilia.

Somewhat unexpectedly, Spaniard Raul Fernandez from the Trackhouse team won, with his compatriot Jorge Martin finishing second. The winner of the previous day's sprint thus extended his lead in the World Championship. Italian Marco Bezzecchi, who finished third today, is now second overall. Aprilia had almost completely dominated the weekend, both in qualifying and the sprint. The picture is similar in the World Championship standings.

World champion Marc Marquez finished fourth four weeks after his victory at the Sachsenring, halting the Ducati rider's charge through the championship standings, at least for now. The Spanish star sits fourth with 199 points, behind Japanese Trackhouse rider Ai Ogura (200), who crashed during the race. Martin has already established a slight lead with 240 points, while Bezzecchi is 31 points behind (209). Pedro Acosta (163) is sixth in the championship, having finished fifth in the British Grand Prix as the best KTM rider.

Fernandez, who crashed during the sprint, crowned his 90th MotoGP race and his 150th Grand Prix – marking two milestones – with a victory starting from second on the grid. At Silverstone, twelve different riders have now won in the last twelve MotoGP races. The next, and 13th, round of the season is scheduled for August 30th: the Aragon Grand Prix in Alcaniz, Spain.
