In MotoGP: This Italian is unstoppable

Marco Bezzecchi continued his MotoGP Grand Prix winning streak in the USA.

The Italian took the lead immediately after the start in Austin on Sunday following a near-collision, never relinquished it, and triumphed for the fifth consecutive World Championship race across seasons. As a reward, the 27-year-old Aprilia rider reclaimed the overall lead, which he had lost to his teammate Jorge Martin after the sprint finish. The Spaniard finished second, while third place went to KTM rider Pedro Acosta.

After Saturday's sprint, which was marred by numerous crashes and won by Martin, this time around there were again plenty of thrilling battles and overtaking maneuvers. However, only one rider, Joan Mir, crashed out of the track without any outside interference in lap 6. Japan's Ai Ogura retired after a strong performance due to a technical problem. Bezzecchi rode with extreme composure, and his victory was never in doubt. It was his ninth win at the MotoGP level. With 81 points, he now leads the standings by four points over Martin, who on Saturday had won his 17th career sprint.

Bezzecchi: "Let's continue like this"

Bezzecchi's dominance couldn't be greater at the moment; he has now led the field for 121 consecutive laps in Grand Prix races, a feat never before achieved. He is also the first rider in over three years to win the first three World Championship races. "I was very sad yesterday; it was important to put in a good race today. I'm so happy," summarized the winner, who crashed while running in second place during Saturday's sprint. He's far from finished with winning. "Let's keep going like this," he declared into the microphones.

Martin, who crossed the finish line 2,036 seconds behind, spoke of a "fantastic" weekend. "Marco was unbeatable," said the Spaniard. Acosta was "absolutely satisfied" after an "exciting race with some challenging laps." World Champion Marc Marquez had to settle for fifth place behind pole-sitter Fabio Di Giannantonio. Enea Bastianini (ITA/KTM-Tech3) finished immediately behind him.
