Catalonia: Home sprint victory for Alex Marquez

Alex Marquez won the MotoGP sprint at the Catalan Grand Prix.

The Catalan rider prevailed on Saturday in Montmelo, north of Barcelona, in what was the closest sprint finish in history, beating his compatriot Pedro Acosta (KTM) and Fabio Di Giannantonio (Ducati). Acosta, who finished just 41 thousandths of a second behind, overtook the Italian in the World Championship standings and provisionally moved back into third place.

Furthermore, Acosta will start Sunday's race (14.00 p.m. CET/live on ServusTV and Sky) from pole position. World Championship leader Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia) could only manage twelfth place on the starting grid after running wide into the gravel. He finished ninth in the sprint.
