Hole in the ground: Chaos in MotoGP

It was a turbulent MotoGP afternoon that unfolded in Brazil on Saturday. In the end, Marc Márquez took the victory.

The MotoGP sprint race in Goiânia started almost 90 minutes late on Saturday. The reason: After qualifying in the afternoon and heavy rain, a sinkhole had formed in the track at the Autódromo Aryton Senna. Suddenly, the track maintenance crews had to be called in.

The surface was cut out into a rectangular area, the resulting pit was then filled and closed. So instead of starting at 7 p.m., the race began at 8:20 p.m. And it was no less spectacular.

Fabio Di Giannantonio, who had won qualifying a few hours earlier, led until two laps before the end, when his Ducati teammate Márquez overtook him and celebrated his first victory of the season.
