Martin gambles and plays into Marquez’s hands

A week after his first win of the season in the Grand Prix of Aragon, Spaniard Marc Marquez has struck again.

The six-time world champion achieved a convincing victory in the San Marino Grand Prix in Misano, but still has a respectable gap to the top duo Jorge Martin and Francesco Bagnaia. The latter finished second and, as the winner, came within 15 points of leader Martin after his failed tyre gamble and 7th place.

Martin, who had won the sprint on Saturday, decided to switch to the spare bike with rain tires when the rain started to fall - and thus became the big loser. The rain did not last long - and Martin was forced to switch back to the other bike after a few laps. The two intermediate stops caused him to slip from second place to 2th place in the end.

His lead in the World Championship rankings has been reduced by 19 points. Marc Marquez – who rides a Ducati like Martin and Bagnaia – is in third place, 53 points behind.

South African KTM rider Brad Binder finished fourth behind Enea Bastianini and pushed his brand colleague Pedro Acosta (ESP) down to sixth place in the overall standings.
