Heavy Bagnaia crash during Marquez’s victory

Spaniard Marc Marquez celebrated a safe start-to-finish victory on Sunday at Motorland Aragon. It was the eight-time world champion's first GP victory on a Ducati in almost three years. Fellow brand rider and compatriot Jorge Martin came in second and extended his lead in the World Championship to 23 points, as Italian Francesco Bagnaia retired after a spectacular crash with Alex Marquez.

For Marc Marquez, it was the crowning conclusion to a dream weekend at home. In north-eastern Spain, the 31-year-old dominated the training and qualifying sessions and won the sprint on Saturday. On Sunday, he went one better, crossed the finish line standing in front of his home fans and family and then celebrated his 60th GP victory in the premier class of motorcycle racing in an extremely emotional manner.

The Ducati factory rider overtook the younger Marquez brother on lap 18 and left him too little space when he pulled in. The Spaniard then crashed into the world champion, who got caught up in his rival's motorcycle. Both fell and slid into the gravel. Bagnaia briefly got caught under Marquez's machine. Both riders were able to go to the pits independently.

The KTM riders Pedro Acosta and Brad Binder benefited from the accident, the Spaniard came third and the South African came fourth. For Acosta, it was the third podium in his rookie season. Australian Jack Miller finished in tenth place.

Next weekend, the Motorcycle World Championship will be visiting Misano on the Adriatic Sea and will be hosting the San Marino GP.
