Red Bull Erzbergrodeo: Garcia sets the fastest time on the first day of racing

The Spanish enduro world champion Josep Garcia set an impressive best time on his KTM 350 EXC-F on the 15 km long gravel route and relegated Chris Gundermann (DE, KTM) and Dominik Olszowy (POL, Rieju) to places. The 5-time prologue champion Ossi Reisinger (AUT/Husqvarna) landed in 12th place.

In rainy and very cloudy weather, the rugged gravel race track over the Erzberg presented itself to the starters of the Blakläder Iron Road Prologue 2024 in actually perfect condition. Dust-free visibility allowed the Extreme Enduro world elite, who were fully present, to accelerate hard and perform spectacular high-speed drifts.

At the end of the first prologue scoring day, Josep Garcia provided an impressive demonstration of power at the Blakläder Iron Road Prologue and set a clear best time of 10:19,563 minutes. At the finish the winner said: “I’m happy to be back on the Erzberg after 5 years. The prologue route has changed a lot since my last visit and today had many very fast passages. I felt really comfortable and am very happy with the interim best time!”

The 31-year-old German privateer Chris Gundermann (KTM) finished second, 10 seconds behind, with a time of 49,806:30, just ahead of Rieju Factory Racing factory rider Dominik Olszowy. With a time of 24:10, the 50,955-year-old Pole placed spectacularly third in a promising position on the podium for tomorrow's second and decisive day of racing.

Top favorites all qualified The other top favorites for the Red Bull Erzbergrodeo 2024 also left nothing to be desired and all qualified among the top 50 and thus for the front row of the Red Bull Erzbergrodeo next Sunday. Of course, the favorites Manuel Lettenbichler (DE, KTM), Trystan Hart (CAN, KTM), Mario Roman (ESP, Sherco), Teodor Kabakchiev (BG, Sherco), Wade Young (RSA, GASGAS), Jonny Walker (UK, Beta), Alfredo Gomez (ESP, Rieju) and Graham Jarvis (UK, Husqvarna).

Michael Walkner (AUT, GASGAS), Austria's great hope for the first domestic podium place at the Red Bull Erzbergrodeo, placed 9th today among the world elite of hard enduro sports. Austria's young star, 16-year-old Valentino Hutter (GASGAS), came sensationally 11th on today's first prologue day with a running time of 13,298:10 minutes. Ossi Reisinger (AUT,Husqvarna), the most successful prologue rider in the history of the Red Bull Erzbergrodeo with 5 victories, placed 12th.

On Friday, the second day of the Red Bull Erzbergrodeo event, the largest and most colorful starting field in motorcycle off-road sport with more than 1300 participants went into the high-speed battle against the “mountain of iron”.
