Short track: Seidel eliminated in the semifinals after two falls

Pyeongchang (SID) First levered, then slipped: After two falls in two races, the German short tracker Anna Seidel was eliminated in the semi-finals of the 1500 m at the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang. The 19-year-old from Dresden achieved her partial goal by making it to the second round, but ultimately had no chance in the fight for the medals. "My running suit was getting wetter every time. It's enough for now," said Seidel: "I couldn't do anything about the first fall. The second time I was stumped. I was leaning a lot, the rail just fell away." The second German starter Bianca Walter (Dresden) was eliminated on her side route in fifth place in her heat. "It was fun. At the end it quickly became very hard on the legs. I don't blame myself," said the 1000 m specialist Walter. Seidel only qualified for the semi-finals after a drama with a positive outcome. In the quarterfinals she fell after contact with the American Jessica Kooreman, but was allowed to compete in the next round after a jury decision. “She hit me so hard that I no longer had a chance,” explained Seidel. After the fall, she quickly got back up, ran to the finish and waited inside for minutes for the judges' decision. In the semifinals of the longest individual distance, things initially went well for Seidel and she stayed in the top group for a long time. In the tenth of 14 laps, she slipped in a curve without any outside influence - the end was sealed. "Unfortunately, that's part of sport. It's a shame, I felt really good. I would have liked to show more," said Seidel. Co-favorite Shim Sukhee from South Korea experienced a debacle. The former world champion and Olympic silver medalist from Sochi fell in a curve shortly after the start without any interference from the opponent. To the horror of the hosts, the medal candidate was eliminated in the first round.
