My All-Star Team | Alexander Egger

The former defender from Bolzano played for his hometown club for 17 years and was active at Ritten for three seasons. After well over 3 appearances for club and national team as well as eleven club trophies, Egger ended his active career two years ago. Today the 1.000-year-old says: “I was lucky to have played with many good players. Niklas Hjalmarsson, Deron Quint, Peter Schäfer, Erik Belanger, Igor Maslennikov, Sergei Vostrikov, Mikhail Vassiliev and many more.”

However, Egger limits his All-Star selection almost exclusively to local players, “who were all able to turn their hobby into a profession, but did not have the opportunities or training of a Canadian ice hockey player. The enthusiasm, commitment and willingness to sacrifice among my top 6 players was far higher than that of so-called stars, who usually earned many times the amount of money.” Here Egger presents his lineup. Tor Günther Hell (career ended): “One of the best goalkeepers in Italy, who could decide games single-handedly. He showed excellent reflexes, was hardworking, ambitious and absolutely exemplary. A leader in the cabin.” Defense Christian Borgatello (HC Meran | right defender): “With his height he doesn't measure up to the size of a defender, but he can outshine everyone else with his talent. A fierce fighter on the ice - and also one of the last to give up when celebrating. Probably has the longest ice hockey stick in this country.”

Armin Helfer (career ended | left defender): “A real powerhouse, there’s nothing more to say. A real rock in defense who – if he wanted to – couldn’t be stopped going forward. Simply the best defender that Italian ice hockey has produced.” © I. Foppa

Storm Roland Ramoser (career ended | right wing): “The sniper in my top 6. Shoveled everything he could into the goal with his oversized stick. He was a goal guarantee not only in Bolzano, but also in the DEL. McGregor Sharp (SønderjyskE/DEN | Center): “He is one of the few imports in the recent past who stayed in Bolzano for three years or longer. McGregor is a natural team guy, both on and off the ice. And he is probably the foreigner who speaks the best Bolzano dialect.”

Stefan Zisser (career ended | left wing): “His motto was: It doesn't work, it doesn't exist! Zizzi always played with 110% commitment and dedication. He was certainly not a filigree technician, but he was excellent tactically and an absolute team player. Despite his manageable height of 1,70 meters, he didn't let anyone intimidate him. An incredible guy.” Trainer Jaroslav Pavlu (career ended): “Jarda was probably the most important coach (not only) of my career. All the technical skills I had were taught to me by him. In my career I was able to get to know many other good trainers, but when I hear the word trainer, the first name that comes to mind is Jarda Pavlu. Unfortunately, you won’t find guys like that in today’s ice hockey.”
